Apple TV 4K (3rd generation): Wi-Fi or Ethernet?.
Understand the differences between third-generation Apple TV 4K models and choose the right network connection.
Apple identifies a 64 GB Wi-Fi model and a 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet model in the third generation. The Ethernet model includes a gigabit Ethernet port; both support up to 4K HDR output.
Where this device fits
The model distinction matters if a wired network is part of your plan: do not assume every third-generation unit has an Ethernet socket. Compare the exact model and available ports, not just the product family name.
What to check before buying
Check whether your preferred apps are offered for this platform in your region. A subscription elsewhere does not automatically establish that a particular provider has an app for this device.
Getting started
Connect HDMI and power; add Ethernet if you have the Ethernet model and want a wired connection. Select the correct input and follow the setup instructions shown on your TV.
Choose between the two third-generation versions
Apple distinguishes the 64 GB Wi-Fi version from the 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet version. The latter has a gigabit Ethernet port. If a cable connection is important in your home, verify that the listing explicitly identifies the Ethernet variant rather than assuming all Apple TV 4K boxes include the port.
The larger storage option may matter if several household members install apps, but advertised capacity is not entirely available for downloads. Compare the full package and warranty, not only the headline storage number.
Matching your display and audio system
The third-generation box supports 4K HDR output, but the full chain still matters. Check that the TV, HDMI input, cable and any receiver or soundbar support the format you expect to use. The selected content and app must offer the relevant resolution or dynamic-range format too.
If you see an unexpected resolution or no picture, start by confirming the TV input and cable seating. Then consult Apple’s instructions for display settings instead of assuming a subscription problem is responsible.
Apps, account and connectivity
Before buying, look for the specific service in the device’s app store for your region and confirm the provider supports the model. An app on a phone or a subscription purchased elsewhere is not proof that the same service has a television app.
For a Wi-Fi connection, place the box where it can receive a useful signal and complete its on-screen account and update steps. If you have the Ethernet model, connect it to the router and check the network status before troubleshooting individual apps.
Apps and subscription compatibility
App availability, operating-system requirements and services vary by country and software version. Check the device’s official app store and ask your service provider whether its app or setup method supports this exact model. A device being listed here does not establish compatibility with Elite IPTV.
