Chromecast with Google TV (HD): 1080p and 4K model differences.

Compare Chromecast with Google TV HD and 4K for output, networking and setup.

AT A GLANCE

Google specifies up to 1080p HDR at 60 frames per second for Chromecast with Google TV (HD), with 802.11ac Wi-Fi and a USB-C power connection.

Where this device fits

The HD version is distinct from Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Choose between them based on the resolution of your television and the exact apps you plan to use, rather than the shared name alone.

What to check before buying

Ask the seller to identify the HD or 4K version, the remote and supplied power adapter. Verify the manufacturer’s update information and app support before buying an older or refurbished unit.

Getting started

Plug the device into HDMI, use the power supply specified for it, select the television input and follow the on-screen setup. Google documents Ethernet through a separate compatible adapter.

HD versus 4K

The HD model outputs up to 1080p; the 4K model is a separate product. A 4K screen can display a compatible HD signal, but the HD Chromecast does not output native 4K.

Both the TV and the programme must support the chosen display format. Confirm the service plan and title if you expect higher-resolution content.

Power and networking

Google specifies a separate power supply and documents an optional Ethernet power adapter. Do not assume the HDMI connector alone powers the device, or that every third-party USB-C adapter is supported.

For Wi-Fi, place the device where the signal is reliable. Ethernet still depends on the compatible adapter, cable and router connection.

Setup and app availability

Pair the supplied remote using the on-screen instructions, complete account setup and check for updates. The available software and app catalogue can change.

Check the exact app listing for your country and seek provider confirmation for the current device and operating system. A hardware listing does not verify service compatibility.

Apps and subscription compatibility

App availability, operating-system requirements and services vary by country and software version. Check the device’s official app store and ask your service provider whether its app or setup method supports this exact model. A device being listed here does not establish compatibility with Elite IPTV.
